Deane's Motorcycle Trip In SOUTH AMERICA |
April 6 - San Augustin, Argentina 238 Miles From Mendoza, Argentina |
The ride today was all on paved road in good shape, with the exception of some "Badenes", (bumpy and poor surface). The overall group of 11 riders broke up into 2-3-4 rider groups, and traveled at their own speed. The individual riders are beginning to sort out who has similar riding skills and similar interests. The eastern side of the Andes is very, very dry. We traveled over 100 miles in the "Pampas Salinas", (salt flats). Interestingly, there are areas of acceptable soil for growing grapes. We saw dozens of small vineyards and a couple of very large ones. At two wineries we saw truck-after-truck-after-truck full of grapes, waiting to be unloaded. We finally arrived in the light of day, after two nights of hurried registration and dinner.
