Deane and Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Northwest Territories & Nunavut | |
August 10 - Westminster, Colorado to Sheridan, Wyoming - 420 Miles |
Today we took the scenic route. Again riding alongside the Front Range, we rode up through Longmont, Loveland, and Fort Collins. Each of these cities is quite attractive, with nicely updated buildings and street malls. In between are some beautiful farmlands, which obviously got enough water this year - pretty and green. As far as housing goes, this area is exploding, with developments gobbling up good farmland too fast.
We went through Laramie, Wyoming, a nice little quiet town. On the way, the views along the Front Range were the best that either Norm or I had ever seen, and we've been up that way a few times. There were beautiful blue skies, puffy little white clouds, the rugged mountains constantly on our left side, and reasonably green grasslands. On the way, both today and yesterday, we encountered many, many motorcyclists on their way home from the big rally at Sturgis, South Dakota. People kept asking us if we were going home from that humongous rally, and we just said "Nope, been there, done that, don't see any reason to go again." More antelope along the way were fun to spot, also. As we got into Wyoming, we lost the closeness of the mountains, but picked up the rolling hills and valleys of vast grasslands. Where there were small rivers, the valleys with their trees and green farmlands were very pretty. And we exchanged thoughts about not having a speck of air pollution in the clear, clear air. The temperatures along our route were pretty high, in the upper 90's, but that didn't slow us down. Sheridan is a nicely spread-out little town, and if the railroad behind our motel doesn't get busy during the night we'll be happy. |
