Deane, Jim, and Alex all had Honda Gold Wing GL1800's to ride on their 2004 tour of Mexico. By coincidence they have chosen the colors of Red, White, and Blue for their bikes, so they make quite a parade wherever they go. Jim (Red bike) is a high experience - long time motorcycle rider; Alex (White bike) is a relatively new rider, having gotten a Gold Wing 1500 as his first bike about 3 years ago; and Deane (Blue bike) is also a high experience - long time rider. Jim is a construction Superintendent with an Albuquerque construction company, Alex is a police officer with the Albuquerque Police Department, and Deane is a retired electronics engineer and engineering manager. We definitely needed Spanish for our far flung trip in Mexico. Alex speaks fluent Spanish, Deane speaks enough Spanish to get along, and Jim speaks some Spanish. We definitely needed Alex's fluent Spanish several times. This is the third time for Deane motorcycling in Mexico, the second time for Alex, and the first time for Jim, although Jim has traveled the Baja Gulf with a car and trailer several times. The overall trip covered just over 6,000 miles, with about 4,700 of those miles spent riding through 24 of the 32 Mexican States. (If you know your world countries, you know that the official title of the country of Mexico is "The United States of Mexico", with 32 States and a "Federal District" like Washington, D.C.)
