w Deane, Alex, and Jim's Motorcycle Trip to Mexico - 2004

Ft. Davis, TX to Albuquerque - Home - 500 Miles

This last day wound up to be a "run for home" type of day.  We started from Ft. Davis, Texas, after a "breakfast burrito" and a pastry at a good little bakery, and we had fun riding the curves in the Davis Mountains.  These mountains were much larger and more extensive than I had expected in that part of west Texas.

Then we headed up to ride in the Guadalupe Mountains, on the border of Texas and New Mexico.  Those were scenic and fun riding also.

None of us had been in either of these two mountain areas before, so it was a treat for all of us.

We had planned a 300-mile day, since that was about as far as we could comfortably have ridden on a day in Mexico in the last three weeks.  However, because of much better roads than we had been accustomed to, we reached our destination of Roswell early in the afternoon.  So we decided to ride the 200 miles on to home in Albuquerque.  Excellent roads allowed us to do that, and the 500 mile day wasn't bad.

When I got home, my odometer said I'd traveled 6,054 miles since I left home!  Quite a trip for 24 days on motorcycle.

The following pages give some statistics and a wrap up.
