Deane and Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Labrador

June 29 - Manning, SC to Danville, VA - 275 Miles

Today was the first day out of the last five days that we didn't ride in rain!

We started in South Carolina, about 1/2 way up, south to north, rode north to the border of North Carolina, then all the way from the southern border to the northern border of North Carolina , and finally into the bottom of Virginia.  We rode through small towns and green fields, and really enjoyed it.  The most prevalent crop we saw was cotton, with some soy beans and other things thrown in.  The morning was delightful, but the late afternoon was very hot and humid.  We were glad to reach our air-conditioned motel.

Why did we come to Virginia?  Well, what do touring motorcyclists do when they want to take it easy for a couple of days?  Why, they go to the motorcycle races, of course!  From the beginning, we planned to come to Virginia to watch motorcycle races, and here we are.  The track is the Virginia International Raceway, and it's close to Danville where we're staying.  This the "Formula USA" motorcycle race program, much the same as Norm and Deane went to in Portland, OR last year, for a break in their riding routine on the way home from the Alaska trip.

For our surprise visit of the day, we rode through Darlington, SC, and decided to look up the Darlington auto race track.  We toured the race museum and enjoyed that.

Tomorrow is race day, so that will be fun.
