Deane and Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Labrador

July 4 - Greenville, SC - "Wing Ding"

This was our day to spend right at the Wing Ding rally site.  We shopped through the vendors of everything possibly related to motorcycling (and some not related at all).

Greenville has excellent convention facilities, and the vendor exposition hall was a huge one with many, many vendors.  We didn't really buy much of anything, because when you are on an extended motorcycle trip you can't carry much more.  Whatever we bought had to either be assembled onto the motorcycle, fit into nooks and crannies, or shipped home.

Norm attended a couple of seminars, and Deane signed up for the "Top Gunn", a motorcycle low-speed handling contest held in a big parking lot.  Deane didn't finally ride in the competition because of a conflict with "riding the demos", but it was worthwhile to find out how it was done so he could have his own chapter of Gold Wing Road Riders Assoc. set up one in Albuquerque.

Both Deane and Norm did "ride the demos".  That is, Honda brings their latest motorcycles to this rally (much like they did at "Honda Hoot", and one can sign up and ride them.  They only had Gold Wing 1800's and VTX 1800's.  So, we signed up for the VTX 1800, Honda's new 1800cc V-Twin Cruiser, and had fun riding them.  For a BIG cruiser, they were great, with lots of power and torque, but they don't compare with the Gold Wings for long distance travel and on -the-road luxury.

It was a very hot and humid day, so we were glad to spend quite a bit of it inside, with air conditioning.

The rally had a big 4th of July celebration in downtown Greenville, but neither of us like large crowds and downtowns, so we passed on that one.  Nonetheless, we had a good time.
