July 28 - Honda Homecoming - 150 miles |
| For some time, Deane and Norm had
been planning to attend "Honda Homecoming". This is an
open house hosted each year by Honda at their Marysville, Ohio
"Motorcycle Assembly Plant". Marysville is only about 75
miles from Norm and Kay's home in Vandalia.
Marysville is where all the Gold Wings in the world have been assembled since about 1980. The accepted story among Gold Wing riders is that to get to Marysville, all the rider has to do is start up the Gold Wing, get it going, let loose of the handlebars, and it knows its way home to where it was built!!
Jim led, with Gordon close behind. They have been riding buddies for some time, and they know all of the back roads in this part of Ohio. They took us through beautiful farmland with pretty homes, in a complicated but fun route that would loose anyone not familiar with this area of Ohio (like Deane). We did arrive in Marysville OK, though. (Maybe through the help of Jim's Gold Wing itself.) We had a good tour of the Motorcycle Assembly Plant, especially taking note of the assembly of the new Gold Wing GL1800's like Deane's. There were lots of bikes from everywhere, and the Honda people were very hospitable. The ride home was again very scenic, and we got home with only a minor amount of rain showers that the weatherman had predicted. Tomorrow Deane is headed toward Kansas, to visit his brother Del, so the journal entries will continue as he goes along toward home in Albuquerque. |
