Deane & Jack's Motorcycle Trip in

Australia and New Zealand

March 18 - Armidale to Sydney, New South Wales

525 Km (325 Miles)

We're in SYDNEY!

This was another day of riding in beautiful rolling pasture lands and rounded mountains.  We thought we would certainly get rained on, because it had rained in town downpours as we were getting up, but despite gathering clouds we made the whole ride with just a small amount of wet roads.

Today was the first Formula 1 race of the season, and Jack wanted to stop and watch the race on TV.  So we found a Pub in a town we were going through, and we spent a couple of hours watching it.

Here is an interesting sign we saw while riding along a highway.

No, unfortunately, we didn't see any Kangaroos crossing the road today.  We've been told that we will have several chances to see them as we go along, so we'll see.

We wound up arriving at the outskirts of Sydney at about dusk, and its a good thing we had our GPS's set up to drive right to our motel.  That's what makes the GPS worth its weight in Gold.

We plan to spend two days here in Sydney, just being tourists.

A few interesting things so far.

Gas costs about $4.00 per gallon.  Our motorcycles are getting about 50 miles per gallon.  The motorcycles themselves are doing very well in the riding we have been doing - everything from freeway (Motorway) riding to one-lane mountain roads.

Restaurant food is very expensive.  At a McDonalds in one small town they were serving "Deli Sandwiches" and they had a coffee setup that rivals Starbucks.
