Alaska is a huge state, but there are not many roads. Part of that of course, is that the conditions to build and maintain roads are very difficult. The first map below shows the overall outline of Alaska, "Two times the size of Texas at High Tide, and three times the size of Texas at Low Tide"
The second map below shows the paved roads in the state. There are dirt and gravel roads, but not many of those, either.
Most of our riding this time was to explore the southern and western roads, since we had ridden the northern roads in the two previous tours.
We rode most of the roads labeled "Main Route" as compared to the roads labeled "Side Trips" that we rode on previous tours of Alaska.
