Deane & Norm's Motorcycle Trip to Alaska | ![]() |
|
July 19 - On the Alaskan Kenai Peninsula - 200 miles |
|
We
took the day to ride down to Homer, on the tip of the Kenai Peninsula.
Norm had been here 10 years ago, and wanted to show me the
spectacular views of ocean and mountains down in the Homer area.
This rest area was interesting, with the summer flowers to contrast with the glaciers in the background, over Norm's right shoulder. These were in the Shugach chain of mountains. We're finding Alaska has LOTS of spectacular mountains and mountain ranges. Homer
is a boating and berthing area, so on "The Spit" there were
several marinas and lots of boats. We
also visited some friends of friends of Norm's, and got some good local
insight as to what to see. We did see two more cow moose (mooses? meece?), but luckily they were content to just eat on the side of the road, and not trying to knock motorcyclists off their motorcycles.
In the town of Soldotna, the bottom part of this type of sign says "Road Kills This Winter - 194". Apparently moose are more susceptible to being hit in the winter. Anyway, the day was a beautiful one for riding on the Kenai Peninsula. |
