jkh Deane, Norm, and Kay's Motorcycle / RV Trip to Northern Canada and Alaska

September 27, Jackpot, NV to Beaver, Utah - 388 Miles

Today started out with clear skies and 40o F temperatures that seemed very mild, after our northern rides.  Still, riding across the desert in the morning was chilly.

The desert between Jackpot and Wells, Nevada, and between Wells and Ely, Nevada is pretty lonely, with very low traffic.

Is this the "High Lonesome"?

All in all, the desert, with its own set of plants and hills, is interesting and has a beauty of its own..

Also, one would not expect Nevada to have high mountains which still retain some of the snow they received last winter, but they are there.

Riding north and south in Nevada is completely different than riding (or driving) east and west.  Going south, as we did in the morning, one runs along in very long, wide, flat valleys, with mountain ranges quite a ways off to each side.  Riding east, as we did in the afternoon, one has to go over the mountain ranges, by going up to passes, of respectable height, 7,000 to 8,000 ft. elevation, and then down and across the wide flat valleys.

This continued into Utah, and we went over five mountain ranges in succession.

Who said Nevada was flat?  Deane and Norm had a ball riding mountain curves.

Kay had quite a challenge driving up and down, and up and down, the passes of the mountain ranges with the motor home and the trailer.  Norm and Deane have been kidding Kay that she is now so expert in driving a "big rig" and pulling a trailer, that she can go to work driving 18-wheelers and "make big money".

All in all, we made good mileage and had a pleasant day riding and driving, without much traffic.
