Deane, Norm, and Kay's Motorcycle / RV Trip to Northern Canada and Alaska | |
September 25, Kettle Falls, WA to Riggins, Idaho - 303 Miles |
We left Kettle Falls after a good look at the mighty Columbia River. It is very wide and carries a lot of water at this point. Riding to Spokane, Washington, for lunch we met George and Marilyn June, friends of Deane's from the time they and Deane enjoyed a first motorcycle trip into Mexico, with a guided tour. George and Marilyn are long time riders, with trips in Europe as well as all over the States. It was fun for Deane to catch up with their recent trips, and they to catch up with his escapades. Then it was on south from Spokane, crossing the Idaho border at Lewiston. This is an area of tremendously large wheat farms, an area Kay hadn't seen before. In Lewiston, we met some new Gold Wingers, just having bought a new gold Wing, and wanting to know about accessories, riding clothes, maintenance intervals, and all kinds of things. It was fun to talk with them and guide them somewhat, but we finally got away and started our ride down the length of Idaho on Highway 95, the only north-south highway covering the length of Idaho. For wildlife, we saw more wild turkeys again. We ended our day at Riggins, on the Salmon River. This is a very rugged area, with high rocky cliffs keeping the river in its path. We found a RV park with many washers and dryers, and did our laundry to finish out the day. |
