Deane, Norm, and Kay's Motorcycle / RV Trip to Northern Canada and Alaska | |
August 16, Canmore, Alberta to Hinton, AB |
We left the RV campground fairly early, and promptly saw three beautiful deer, all young bucks. They were mule deer, and there seems to be a mixture of Mule Deer and White Tail Deer in that area of Canada. That was proven by seeing a White Tail doe soon afterward. This was our day to travel the "Icefield Parkway" between Banff and Jasper. This is spectacular for sightseeing, both for the Glaciers along the high mountains and for the very rocky rugged mountains themselves. Anyone having traveled this highway has seen some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Unfortunately, the glaciers are not having enough snow coming each year to replenish them, and they are receding. Hopefully our weather pattern will change and reverse this. We stopped at Lake Louise, and viewed the beautiful lake and glacier, with the "Glacier Milk" coloring. The Glacier Milk is the fine white powder that travels down with the water melting from the glacier, and is caused by the glacier grinding the rocks exceeding fine.
We hit rain at the northern part of this highway, put on rain suits and finished the ride in the rain. A campsite in a Provincial Park finished the day. |
