Deane's 2009 Motorcycle Trip South Africa |

Kick-Off of the Motorcycle Tour
Day 1 - 41km (25 Miles) |
|
The day started at the home of our tour guide, Darryl Berman, in getting the paperwork done for each of the motorcycles and riders. Then Darryl took us out on a ride through Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, taking us to historical monuments and city areas, along with a stop for a while for some music typical of South Africa. A Saturday gathering of bands and people just enjoying the music and doing some dancing was interesting. Part of the ride was to acclimate me to riding on the left side of the road, since that is the side South Africa drives and rides on. Our other riders are English and Australian, so they already drive and ride on the left side. Here is the decoration on the Berman van which will be following us.
South Africa is hosting the World Cup of Soccer in 2010, so there are some noticeable signs of interest in that event. Look at the size of that soccer ball.
The day was capped of with an excellent barbeque by Darryl and his wife Ann with their son Jonathon, who will be driving the chase van. |
