Deane's 2009 Motorcycle Trip

South Africa

Nov 22, - Cape Agulhas to Cape Town

 Day 16 - 460Km (285) Miles

This ride took us along the shore of Walker Bay, a huge bay along the southern seashore of South Africa.

The towns along this ride are quite pretty, with them being clean and freshly painted.  Our guide Darryl told us we were lucky that we had glorious sunshine and temperatures in the 70 degrees F range with the Cape areas usually getting lots of rain; cold rain.

Along this shore, at the town of Humanus we say two whales, who were at first "just cruising" and then they put on quite a display of jumping out of the water.  Every few minutes one or the other would make a big jump - just for us!  Darryl said these were "Southern Wright Whales".

Then in that same area, penguins come to shore, and we got to see several of them.  You can see that these are the small variety of penguins, maybe these are called "pygmy" penguins.

These penguins were "molting",, and it wasn't clear whether they were young ones or just others come to this place to do their molting.
